HOW MUCH DOES AN SR-22 COST?

If you’ve ever gotten yourself in some hot water while driving, you know how easy it can be to lose your license.  Even worse, you need to jump through hoops to get that license back, so you can keep driving to your job, run errands and everything else our daily lives require. One of the most common questions that we hear is “How much does an SR-22 cost?” and “How much will I have to spend?”  Well, the answer will shock you:  All you have to do is pay the filing fee for the SR-22 form.

What is an SR-22, anyway?

Let’s take a step back and define what an SR-22 is: it’s a state-filed certificate that you may need to obtain if you are convicted of certain driving offenses. Don’t worry, if you just have a speeding ticket here or there, you don’t have much to worry about, but if you have been convicted of more serious infractions, you may need to see how we can help you with an SR-22. These infractions can include reckless driving, driving after suspension of a license and driving under the influence of either alcohol or marijuana. In these cases, drivers are usually riskier to insure, so your insurance company will require an SR-22, which is essentially a certificate indicating you will pay for damages that you can incur while driving.

Higher insurance rates can cause headaches

Now, that being said, even though obtaining an SR-22 is cheap, there are associated costs with having a less-than-favorable driving record. The bulk of these added costs are brought in the form of increased insurance premiums. Insurance companies pay more in claims for people that have these serious driving records, so in turn they will attempt to proactively reclaim that money that they will pay out in damages – in the form of higher rates.
