If you are a California resident, you have a DUI case, and you want to regain the use of your license, you are required to obtain an SR-22 form from your insurance agent that verifies you have met the state’s requirements with respect to auto liability insurance. Upon receiving an SR-22 certificate, your insurance company will forward a copy to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

An SR-22 must be obtained anytime you wish to reinstate your license following a suspension or revocation. It is also required in order to continue driving with an ignition interlock device (IID) installed. Although they are most commonly associated with DUI-related license suspensions, an SR-22 may be necessary under a variety of circumstances, including any high-risk or negligent driving.

With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, you’ll want to remember the above before you decide to get behind the wheel. If you happen to take your celebration a little too far and end up requiring an    SR-22, we will surely be able to help you.
