What is a DUI Offense?
Washington State Department of Licensing,a DUI offense is defined as follows:
“Driving under the influence (DUI) refers to operating a vehicle while affected by alcohol, drugs, or both. This applies to both legal and illegal drugs, including prescription medication and over-the-counter drugs.”
What if You're Arrested for a DUI?
If you are arrested for a DUI in the state of Washington, you license is suspended unless you request a hearing to contest the suspension within 20 days of the arrest. You then go to hearing examiner to decide in your favor, which still results in a suspended license. From that point, you have the option of getting an interlock device drivers license, which allows you to drive while your license is suspended.
How Does This Affect Insurance?
A marijuana DUI conviction can have serious legal and financial impact. Once you are arrested for or convicted of a DUI, your license is suspended anywhere from 90 days to years. To get back on track with your insurance, you must file an SR-22 certificate of insurance. This covers liability and any damage you may cause while driving.
