Broad Form Insurance in Washington State

BROAD FORM WASHINGTON STATE

What Is Broad Form Insurance? Washington State is one of the few states that allow Broad Form Insurance. This type of auto insurance provides only liability insurance and excludes every person besides the one who’s insured. This eliminates the variable risk for the insurer. You can add uninsured motorist coverage and personal injury protection to the policy. Basically, this is the bare-bones coverage for only you as the policy holder, no one else driving your car is covered.

MAIN POINTS OF BROAD FORM INSURANCE WASHINGTON STATE:

1. If someone borrows your vehicle, they are not covered by your insurance, and you are still legally liable.

2. You will not be covered by insurance when driving a non-traditional vehicle, like an RV or motorcycle.

3. You will not be covered by insurance for any damage incurred to your vehicle in an at-fault accident.

4. You can drive any vehicle (excluding company cars) since you are insured as a driver across-the-board.

In Washington, Broad Form insurance is secondary to auto insurance. It is a limited coverage policy, and is not recommended for young drivers or high-risk drivers. We can advise you on the best policy for your young driver, or help you if you are deemed high risk.
